Hi everyone, is there a process for suggesting new working groups or should i just bring it up on Thursday at the weekly IRC meeting?

sipa: Yes, I'm rougly 2 months behind and catching up now. I do wonder if there is appetite to incrementally ship parts of GCC. Unless i'm missing something, it seems like worst case block validation, 64 byte txs, and timewarp are unrelated? I think it would be great to target 1 of those for 30.0
<Chris_Stewart_5>
aj pointed me in the direction of 64 byte txs as that has an implementation in inquisition, so maybe that is the best candidate to start :man_shrugging:
<Murch[m]>
Chris_Stewart_5: Given that rolling out a softfork always incurs a huge amount of community work, it would probably be easier to ship it at once instead of piecemeal
<sipa>
Chris_Stewart_5: i don't really have opinions on this myself, just wanted to make sure you were aware of existing work if you're proposing to start a wg about it!
<Murch[m]>
darosior: Do you already have a working group on this?
<Chris_Stewart_5>
Murch[m]: So for segwit/taproot yes, but not the case for OP_CSV/OP_CLTV and soft forks before that which we shipped much quicker. I think shipping large soft forks causes exponentially more community work rather than a slim soft fork like disallowing 64 byte txs. Any way I suppose this isn't the place for that discussion.
<Chris_Stewart_5>
to bitcoin-wizards i suppose!
<darosior>
I think a working group at this stage is a bit premature, let alone discussions of targeting a specific milestone. As much as i would have liked this to go faster it's still at the research stage, not "implement in Core" stage, let alone shipping in a specific release. I am however increasingly confident that we are reaching the end of the
<darosior>
development phase. Didn't want to commit to it publicly before actually doing it, but since you ask i plan on writing a draft BIP soon. I think a logical follow-up would be to implement the changes in bitcoin-inquisition. Then, well, we'll see. That's already a bunch of work to do before deciding what to focus on next.

the end of the research phase*
