< bad_duck>
is there a bitcoin-core related chan for non dev questions? I saw that there is a slack but I don't want to use it.. (bis)
< gijensen>
#bitcoin is good (though not specifically core, it is specifically bitcoin)
< GitHub59>
[bitcoin] luke-jr opened pull request #7440: [0.12] Rename permitrbf to replacebyfee and provide minimal string-list forward compatibility (0.12...permitrbf_rename-0.12.x) https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/pull/7440
< bad_duck>
gijensen: I'm talkong about bitcoincore's slack.. I'm on #bitcoin but that's not the content I'm looking for!
< Luke-Jr>
bad_duck: slack can be used via IRC
< phantomcircuit>
gmaxwell, i think it would be good if the wallet returned p2sh keys by default that are just a regular p2pkh script
< phantomcircuit>
wumpus, thoughts?
< bad_duck>
Luke-Jr: I know.. but IMHO it would be usefull to have a real irc channel for people who don't want to join slack, what do you think about a dedicated chanen with a bot making the link between the slack and a channel on freenode ?
< gmaxwell>
phantomcircuit: we used to think that was larger, but it turns out it's not.
< Luke-Jr>
phantomcircuit: agree, but signed messages don't support that. (nor does Eligius yet :<)
< Luke-Jr>
bad_duck: why not just connect to slack via IRC?
< gmaxwell>
Luke-Jr: it also does the presence service stuff that syps on your around.
< Luke-Jr>
gmaxwell: huh? is that what the +v/-v going on constantly is?
< bad_duck>
Luke-Jr | gmaxwell: huh? is that what the +v/-v going on constantly is? <-- people openning / closing their web browser...
< Luke-Jr>
O.o
< bad_duck>
also with slack you wan only see the last 10k message, beside allowing access to conversation for people who don't want to registor on slack, it might be a good idea to set up a bot to log conversations and allow others to speak
< gmaxwell>
bad_duck: Yes, I think thats how it shows up on IRC.
< bad_duck>
I think it would be a good idea to set up a chan monitoring conversation between slack and a dedicated channel. I can help to set up this / host this it it can help
< phantomcircuit>
gmaxwell, yeah p2sh is actually 1 less byte i believe
< gmaxwell>
phantomcircuit: same size exactly, in fact.
< phantomcircuit>
oh i forgot to count some of the op_push bytes
< phantomcircuit>
Luke-Jr, signmessage/verifymessage you mean?
< phantomcircuit>
Luke-Jr, also yes why doesn't eligius support p2sh?
< phantomcircuit>
it would be so easy
< Luke-Jr>
phantomcircuit: yes
< Luke-Jr>
Eligius needs signmessage/verifymessage; and the stats don't work with p2sh yet
< gmaxwell>
Luke-Jr: what percentage of users bother customizing their settings?
< Luke-Jr>
and every time it comes up we go off on a tangent about how to avoid address reuse
< Luke-Jr>
gmaxwell: no idea
< gamersg>
greg, let me know when u are free. just need a few mins of ur time
< btcdrak>
bad_duck: not the place to discuss slack, but 10k limit is not true, there is a public archive slack.bitcoincore.org/logs

< OxADADA>
for the website (based on jekyll) i'd like to change the HTML markup to make it parsable by 3rd party readers like GetPocket.com, Instapaper, etc. Would that be something ya'll would accept as a PR?
< OxADADA>
wumpus: should i open a ticket describing it first?
< MarcoFalke>
You could describe it in the pull?
< wumpus>
OxADADA: you could just do it as a pull request, I don't think this is controversial at all
< OxADADA>
MarcoFalke: indeed i could. I'll do that.
< MarcoFalke>
great, looking forward!
< wumpus>
first opening an issue to describe it would be the way to go if you're not sure it makes sense, but I think a site that can work in reader mode etc is uncontroversially better
< OxADADA>
wumpus: ya. If it supports reader-view, then apps like GetPocket can read the text back with a text-to-speech generator. This way i can listen to our blog posts while biking to work :P
