<btcdev> hi guys i am a software developer, i mined some btc when it was worth around 1 usd, but for some reason truecrypt software did not work, and so i lost access to the private keys of my btcs, i have some emails on my email account detailing some btc transfers that i did accidentally from the official bitcoin wallet client to some addresses by mistake
<btcdev> ( i am not sure if those addresses where existent at that moment ), is there some way to recover my lost btcs?
<btcdev> maybe by issuing a patch and sending to me a link to confirm my email address to verify that i was the one that sent the btcs to those addresses?
brunoerg has joined #bitcoin-core-dev
<btcdev> btw my hd was destroyed so the access to the private keys is impossible now

<btcdev> i am not sure if someone answered my question
<sipa> This channel is about development of the Bitcoin Core software.
<sipa> And without access to private keys, there is no way to recover coins.
<btcdev> i have the address of the wallet that i sent the coins from but i dont have the private keys
<btcdev> there are some btcs at that address but those are unusable as i do not have the private keys anymore, they got completely destroyed forever
<btcdev> i guess the number of btc can be seen with a blockchain explorer, i am not sure, i only have the address
<btcdev> and an email as proof that i sent btc from that address
<btcdev> i know this is bitcoin dev, i thought maybe you can issue a patch
<btcdev> to recover my btc by using my email address as proof instead of the private keys
<sipa> Bitcoin funds are not tied to any email address.
<sipa> If you want to move the coins, you need the private key, sorry.
vasild has quit [Ping timeout: 255 seconds]
<btcdev> i know but we can change that with a patch? only for my address
<sipa> If you have further questions, see https://bitcoin.stackexchange.com or any number of online forums.
<btcdev> my address would be the only one
<btcdev> tied to an email on the btc chain
<sipa> This is off topic here.
<btcdev> sounds good? to issue a patch like that?
<btcdev> ok
<btcdev> to discuss that patch is the bitcoin.stackexchange.com then
<btcdev> right
<btcdev> ?
<sipa> You're free to create a patch that does whatever you want, but you'll need to convince the world to run it.
vasild has joined #bitcoin-core-dev
<sipa> No, that site is about further questions on how Bitcoin works.
<btcdev> and where can i discuss this patch?
<sipa> Not here.
<btcdev> where then? is not this for bitcoin core dev? like maintenance of the gitcoin source code by issuing patchs and things like that?
<sipa> If you actually want to propose a protocol change to get your coins back, the procedure would be to discuss it first on the bitcoin-dev mailing list.
<sipa> But I don't expect you'll get very far in convincing people to adopt your fork.
<btcdev> ok
<btcdev> thanks for the info
<sipa> Bitcoin Core is only one implementation of the Bitcoin protocol, so this is not the place to discuss protocol changes like that. You'll need to write a proposal, and get widespread agreement from the entire community to adopt it.
<btcdev> i see, i thought this was the main implementation
<btcdev> also, by having the address from where i sent my btc from
<btcdev> and the probable ip
brunoerg has joined #bitcoin-core-dev
<btcdev> that i used at that time
<btcdev> is the ip stored on the blockchain or some other record
<btcdev> as proof
<btcdev> instead of just the email address
<sipa> No. You need the private key.
<btcdev> ah ok private key completely lost
<btcdev> forever
<sipa> And please, go to stackexchange if you have further questions. This channel is for development, not user questions.
<btcdev> it was a truecrypt encrypted partition
<btcdev> then i formated the pc
<btcdev> as the partition became unusable
<btcdev> ok

<btcdev> i thought its part of the development of such patch to ask if.... with the sender address that i have is enough to see in the blockchain the register that shows how many btcs i had in my wallet? the btcs that i lost the private key
<btcdev> technically is it like that? is possible to see how many btcs there were at that sender wallet?
<btcdev> i mined them with a group miner
<btcdev> shared pool
<btcdev> with the official bitcoin client i think
<btcdev> as wallet
