"consensus rules are a subset of acceptance rules", so for example: acceptance rules: 1. it must be square, 2. it must be blue; consensus rules, being a subset of acceptance: 1. it must be square. So, a red square is valid by consensus rules but not by acceptance rules, hmm!?
<vasild>
right
<glozow>
vasild: yes
<glozow>
a red square in this case can be a tx with nVersion=3

sdaftuar: I am thinking that it does not help too much if nChainTx remains anyway. Ideally, it is removed completely or kept as-is, with a 64-bit bump. On my system the memory increase of the chain vector was less than 10% on testnet, so a 64-bit bump seems fine instead of removing the field?

maflcko: yes that's fair, i was discussing with lightlike the other day whether maybe if we wanted to save memory, we could avoid storing nchaintx and instead just calculate on the fly for the tip instead. if the overhead is small though then probably not worth it.
