sipa: turns out adding vim bindings to weechat is not going as smoothly as I had hoped
<instagibbs>
josie, I read this multiple times thinking you were talking about using the CCP spy app with vim bindings. I had questions.

instagibbs: lol, google also tends to think the same thing, which makes googling for help a bit awkward

sipa: re our discussion about TTLs on txns... I think I've come around to your POV, so I agree. Although they can be useful for giving one type of guarantee to users, not having them also gives users a type of guarantee as well, just a different type, I think.
<sugarpuff>
there are some classes of applications where the current guarantee is better than the TTL guarantee
<achow101>
laanwj: I think bitcoin-git is dead?
<sugarpuff>
sipa: even though, it's not quite clear to me what that guarantee is, it seems to be "the txn is expected to be treated as completed, eventually... maybe". It's still very nebulous, as I think, currently, a txn with very low fee can potentially simply fail to be included in the chain after some (unknown?) period of time. so not quite a guarantee, but the expectation is that there is no reversal, typically at least.

feel free to correct me if I'm wrong

there's some weird timeout shit going on with matrix, but it should be working again for now
<josie>
laanwj: fwiw, the matrix to irc bridge has been unusable for me recently. i ended up switching back to an irc client. not sure if the bot is also using the matrix bridge?
<laanwj>
josie: it is! and it's failing on a basic low-level command "look up room id for alias" on this specific channel but not others, hardcoding the room id works for now until it needs to re-join
<laanwj>
it's printed the "merged pull request" zillions of times to #bitcoin-commits, and mastodon because i re-sent it to test 😅

<laanwj> "it is! and it's failing on a..." <- it's also not just a x0f.org problem, i've tried the same lookup on other homeservers with the same result; if you're here through the matrix bridge, don't leave the channel or you won't be able to rejoin due to this same error
