my guess would be becuase it tries to build pkg-config, and pkg-config, being a unix utility, can only be built with mingw?

that's pretty gross, ideally there'd be a way to skip that, as libevent itself can be built with msvc just fine

laanwj oh good catch yeah that is weird. This is on windows 10 too, no container or VM. Im just trying to reproduce a ci failure in `win64-native` though so i might just use whatever image github action does
<hebasto>
pinheadmz: what if you switch to cmake provided my MSVC installation?
<pinheadmz>
hebasto is that part of the c++ workload? i thought i had an issue with that but ill look into it

pinheadmz: additionally, try to update your vcpkg installation via `git pull`
<pinheadmz>
ok question about that - i git clone vcpkg and run the bootstrap command - but that command downlaods a binary from the internet, i dont think local code changes are effective?
<pinheadmz>
but id have to build vcpkg myself and docs are awkwardly hard to find for that
<hebasto>
`git pull` updates port descriptions

<lightlike>
i find it a bit annoying that when I use --target to only build bitcoind and bitcoin-cli, multiple functional tests fail because they require executables I didn't build (e.g. tool_wallet)
<lightlike>
Would it be a bad idea to have the test framework check if these auxiliary executables are actually there and skip the tests if not, instead of checking whether they are expected to be there based on the build config?
